Media language- Editing

In my music video, I want to convey various emotions and thoughts through my editing style. I will do this through several techniques: firstly, the speed of the shots, transitions and the camera movement. If i aim to convey a downbeat mood/tone then the speed of camera movement will slow down, as this takes away the thought that the main character is upbeat, this change in speed will have to match the beat of the song, otherwise the desynchronized camera movement and speed will look strange for the viewer.

Moreover, the common mistake that A level students regularly make is using the camera to zoom mid shot, this doesn't only lower the quality, but it seems unnatural and can destroy a mood that is being encoded for the audience. Zoom is used very little in professional music videos and films, this is because it lowers the overall quality of the product, as it is seen as a poor technique, because of this a director will use a track or a pan to replicate the same effect without lowering the quality of the video. If I need to use zoom in my music video, then I will not zoom mid roll, and I will try and do it in editing if needed, as this will give me more control over the framing of the zoom.

I will be using Filmora Video Editor, this editor allows me to use different editing techniques and effects. The editor gives me an opportunity to use 3D LUT, this enables my footage to have a high end cinematic tone. This will help me achieve a high standard of product.
