'How does media language incorporate viewpoints and ideologies in these  front pages? '

'How does media language incorporate viewpoints and ideologies in these  front pages?’        [15]

On the front cover of the sun there are lots of anti-trump  phrases and pictures. This is shown firstly in the headline as it says”16 year after joke Simpsons prophecy. This suggests that nobody thought trump should of won the vote, and it would only happen in a dream situation, and is a mockery of the USA president. moreover the fact that he vote is seen as a “joke” suggest that it is a laughing matter, and shouldn’t be happening. The sense of the “joke” carries on into the central image, as the integrated intertextuality of Homer Simpson is exclaiming “Do ’oh” this means “oh ’no”. Homer is a well-known American, and international, icon. The use of hypothermic needle, may lead to people who watch the Simpsons as they were growing up. As homer fans would ant to agree with his view point.

Moreover, the combination of the elements shown in the paragraph previously suggests a less serious tone and potentially reflects the belief that Trump would/will have a less ominous effect on the country as expected as before in other newspapers.

Also the sun has preserved almost all of the front cover to the Trump story, the story that is shown in the plug/puff is about “7 people dying in a tram horror”. The fact that the sun have not covered this story as the main event, which has more relevant to us as brits. However, the editor of the sun has decided to run with the Trump story as he/she clearly as a political stance on the topic. The viewpoint that the paper is trying to put across is of a labour origin. The owner of the sun is Rupert Murdoch, he has a mixed past and is a is heavily linked to the labour party.  In America he is close to Donald Trump therefore a republican, which is surprising due to the front cover. In the UK he supports the political/democratic system that we have, while he dislikes the constitutional monarchy, as he is known not to like the monarchy.

In comparison to this, the Daily Mail, uses hyperbolic language in the headline for the effect of putting across the viewpoint. This view is that the election will have an earthquake effect on Great Britain as well as the USA. The sensational headline “Trump quake” creates an informal tone, reflecting the pre-election image of Trump being a populist businessman. The use of the metaphor “seismic, shockwaves, quake, swept” reinforces the significance of the situation, referring Trumps win to a force from nature.

The use of emotive language, for example “electrifying human drama”, engages the audience by humanising the huge political event, and therefore presenting the event with a positive outcome. Moreover the low angle main image of Trump suggests the semiotics that he is dominant and in control of the situation that is at hand. The clenched fist that tump is using to resemble power was originally used in the civil rights movement in America, through the Black panthers. They used the symbol in a similar way to Trump, as it was used to show the resilience, however showed the strength of the black civil rights movement. Some would suggest that the image is used to resemble Trump as a powerful, statesmanlike politician.

Overall, the combination of the factors suggest that the daily mail believes that Trump has achieved a great and major success. This reflects the daily mails ideology as a right wing newspaper, broadly relating to the republican viewpoint. In the stand first, the quote “Americas forgotten white working class” also positions the daily mails ideology as supportive of this demographic, arguably appealing to the their target audience of working class/ lower middle class readers.

To conclude, both newspapers use media language to incorporate the view point that the US election result is important to Britain and its future after the Brexit referendum. They both are aiming at their specific audience as the sun is a labour orientated ‘red top’. While the daily mail is aiming at the working/lower middle class brits.
