The song was aimed to change peoples perceptions of rough and though men, this is shown through the homosexual army soldiers at the end of the music video kissing. Following the death and kissing scene, everybody apart from the female actresses break down into tears, this is showing that there are feelings in every man that they are unable to express due to the social norms.

Until they kiss we only think that the sense of loss is shown, however they kiss and then we are shown that the main actors are shown as gay, this may be done to go against war film norms as the male feelings are not usually allowed to be shown.

Riptide

Does the video imply a uniqueness to the band?

Yes, normally a music video is not shown as a literal meaning/viewing. The music is used as a narrator for the montage that is happening as a view. The images have very metaphorical and simple meanings at the same time. For example, the riptide image that is shown when mentioned symbolized the fact that you cant get out of a situation, as you shouldn't swim against the tide, so you should let go and go with the flow.

When asked, "would the video have the same feeling if the main character was male"?

we said no as the video is made to seem that the female is seen as weak and vulnerable. However there have been other music videos with a view of a male and a female in the center of the video, this is every other freckle.
